October 28, 2011 was the proposed end date of the Mayan calendar by Carl Calleman. It is said to represent the Ninth Wave, or the top level of a series of evolutionary stages. Calleman's research has shown that this date is important as an evolutionary leap in global consciousness rather than as a harbinger of the apocalypse through some cataclysm. This is actually a hopeful time. And so I absolutely loved this sharing from a friend and fellow healer’s blog yesterday morning:
This coming time on Earth is very much like the first wave of Mother Earth's children has reached the legal drinking age. They will have availability to intoxicating energy like they never have dreamed before. Some are already at the pre-party events, sipping the atmosphere of new light!
If you’re like me, you might be wondering when the real party is going to start. After all, the last couple of weeks, while certainly chock full of intense energy, have not been particularly festive for many. From what I’m seeing, lots of us are wrestling with old (and sometimes even ancient) “stuff” that is relentlessly floating to the surface in its quest to be released. Just when we think we’re “finished,” some other elusive remnant of density rears its head and we feel like we’re back at the beginning.
But we’re not. It might help to think about this process of “shedding” as being akin to peeling back layers of an onion. While each further layer looks nearly identical to one we’ve seen before, we ARE faithfully making our way to the core. But it’s a process.
As if this whole ordeal weren’t difficult enough, there is, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation floating around about the nature of Light and what it all means. New Age teachers everywhere seem to indicate that to become enLIGHTened (which is, believe it or not, a biological process. See
this article for a great explanation!) is to feel free and sweet and, well…light. But make no mistake: at this stage of the game Light can feel like a slow burn.
Metaphorically speaking, our current evolutionary process is analogous to the transmutation of lead into gold. And while it might be easy to get lost in the beauty of that sentiment, the reality of the lived process is nothing short of harrowing. Releasing the old in order to make room for the new can feel like a ruthless game of cosmic tug-‘o-war where we’re the ones constantly on the ground.
And while we may not get to choose our circumstances in all of this, we can always choose our relationship to those circumstances (which, believe it or not, can actually change everything!). That is to say, when we get pulled down by the relentlessness of the Universe, we get to decide how to frame that. We can continue to fight and feel victimized, or we can change the story to one that contains seeds of faith and agency.
Easier said than done, right? I know. I live it too, and it is a constant process and practice. Just remember that, in order to build the muscles of resiliency and trust, we have to endure those crucibles of seeming intractability. And so darkness does possess a generative function as it heralds the birth of our Light.
In the meantime, don’t let the painful contractions derail you. If anything, they are reminders of how close we are!
